There was a time in my life where I did everything right on the outside…
lass=”yoast-text-mark” />>I trained hard.
lass=”yoast-text-mark” />>I followed nutrition plans.
>I stayed “busy.”
But inside?
My mindset was quietly sabotaging everything I was trying to build.
And I see this exact same pattern in so many women I work with in perimenopause.
You can have the best program, the best intentions, the best support…
But if your mindset is working against you, it will always override your efforts.
Perimenopause is already a season of massive hormonal change, emotional shifts, identity changes and physical unpredictability. The last thing you need is a mindset that’s making it harder.
So let’s talk about the Do’s and Don’ts of Mastering Your Mindset in Perimenopause — what truly helps… and what quietly sabotages you.
✅ THE MINDSET DO’S
✅ DO: Question the stories you tell yourself
In perimenopause, it’s easy to fall into:
“I’m too old now.”
“My body is broken.”
“This is just how it is.”
These stories feel real — but they’re not facts. They are stores you are telling yourself. They’re just familiar thoughts.
And fictional familiar thoughts can lead to sabotaged results.
✅ DO: Align your actions to your values
This was a game changer for me personally.
Once I established and aligned my values with my goals, my decisions and actions became clearer.
I stopped relying on motivation and started acting from alignment.
When your actions match your values, self-sabotage loses its power.
✅ DO: Focus on what you can control
You can’t control every symptom.
You can’t control every hormone shift.
But you can control:
• Your goals and implementation roadmap
• Your boundaries
• Your consistency
• Your self-talk
• Your daily non-negotiables
That’s where your power lives.
✅ DO: Build evidence
Confidence is built through evidence.
Evidence comes from small promises kept to yourself every day.
Not perfection.
Consistency.
Every time you complete an actionable that you have set yourself for the day, note the win. These are the evidence you are looking for.
❌ THE MINDSET DON’TS
❌ DON’T: Wait to “feel motivated”
Motivation is not a prerequisite for action.
Action is what creates motivation.
Waiting to feel “ready” keeps women in limbo for years.
❌ DON’T: Speak negatively about your body
Your nervous system is always listening.
When you constantly criticise your body, it responds with stress.
Stress worsens symptoms.
Symptoms then reinforce the negative story.
It becomes a loop — unless you interrupt it.
Be your own best friend. You wouldn’t talk negatively about your best friend. Talk to yourself the same way you would talk to your bestie; with love, support and compassion.
❌ DON’T: Set all-or-nothing expectations
This is where so many women fall over.
Miss one workout → “Stuff it.”
Eat one off-plan meal → “I’ve blown it.”
That mindset kills long-term success faster than anything else.
If you get a flat tyre you don’t get out of the car and slash the other 3! You get out and change that tyre and move on. Do the same with your life.
❌ DON’T: Compare your journey to someone else’s
Your hormones, history, stress load, trauma, lifestyle and nervous system are unique.
Comparison only creates unnecessary pressure — and disconnects you from your own progress.
✅ WHY MINDSET MATTERS MORE IN PERIMENOPAUSE
Perimenopause is n
ot just a physical transition — it’s a psychological one.
s=”yoast-text-mark” />>Your identity shifts.
>Your confidence can wobble.
>Your patience gets tested.
>Your self-trust can feel shaky.
This is exactly why mindset becomes the foundation — not the bonus.
I’ve lived on both sides of destructive self-talk and empowered self-leadership.
And I can tell you with certainty:
Your thoughts will either become your prison… or your power.
Question – Are you a ‘worrier’ or a ‘warrior’? And which would you prefer to be?
Implementing these Mindset Strategies is exactly the type of thing I cover in my mindset coaching.
